(Please either post your sample roleplay below or post the link where it may be easily found. Please include dialogue where possible. If you prefer, you may also request an interactive "test scene" with one of our players - if so, please list characters that you would be interested in interacting with for the scene).
Please note that we are currently not accepting the following types of applications from people currently outside of the community:
1) Original Characters.
2) DC: Animated Universe transplants that have little to no history/presence in DC Comics Continuity.
3) Characters from other fandoms (If you're a Marvel Comics fan, we have a sister community that has Marvel RP. Please ask for details.)
If you're just completely new to this and want to know how to contribute feel free to e-mail us.
Please give the admins at least 24-48 hours to respond to your app request. (If it's near the end of a school quarter, please give us a little more leeway.) Once you hear from us, we will have a team of players review your application and hopefully get back to you with an answer as soon as possible. If you haven't heard a final answer within a week, please check with us. One of our priorities is to not leave people hanging wherever possible.
WHEN we respond, we will respond with either a YES, a NO (with reasons why), or a TEST SCENE. The third option, which is common, is when we want to see more from you to see how both you and your character would interact with someone already in the game - often someone your character would have a close relationship with. Once your test scene is completed, we will then respond shortly thereafter with a YES or a NO.
We have a strong preference for players who are 18 and over, due to the themes often addressed in this RPG.
You may wish to review the rules post or our FAQ as well.

H) Base of operations: Formerly Prison, now an Interpol-Sponsered HQ
I) There's a lot of fun to be had with a character that is part Moralist, Silver Age-Style Bank Robbing Grand Show Villain, and Partially Unhinged Psychopath. I'd love to have him interact with Vera Black and Deadshot, as they are 'near' him in the socially maladaptive but at least partially morally sounds group. I'd also love to bounce off some newer, 'edgier' villains and heroes. A meetup with Superman would also be fun, as Nimball would still consider him the Carnegie Hall of Heroes to fight, and some interaction with the Schott version of Toyman, or any of the Toymen, would be interesting.
The basic idea is this: The Nimball Version of Toyman watched Schott kill one of his robots, and decided it may be good to change his locality and name. As Fun Haus, he was caught by some C-Listers on the West Coast, and decided it'd be a good idea to lay low in Prison for a while. However, Nimball has a very twisted sense of right and wrong; as theatrical as his villainy is, he doesn't kill for money or jollies, and has developed methods of dealing with people who do.. While in prison, he's been sending killer toys to child killers, slavers, and other types of the same that he has heard of. Vera Black decides that there's a better outlet for his talents, and brings him in on a new group she is forming.

I love Hawkgirl in all her incarnations and I have a solid understanding of the twisty history that is that of the Hawks. Playing Hawkgirl, especially Shiera is always a pleasure and a treat.
I am interested in playing the character in accordance to what is already being established in game as well as would enjoy exploring Hawk-centric plots that draw on the rich and tangled history that the characters have. One of the great things about the Hawks is that any villain can be their villain. As long as there is action, I’m there. :) My only real no-go is the idea that Shiera died. Again, though I understand that did not happen in this game and am very grateful for that.

Edward's reform story is one of the best things they've done with a Batvillain in a long time and I like to play with it. He'd be a Gothamite problem solver, though as Eddie regularly traveled to (and has connections in) Central and Star City, he's not above making his presence known as he moves around.
Mostly he'd be a schemer, instigator, and manipulator, and not much for direct heroics/villainy, but he needs to keep his mind sharp and his wits engaged to stave off the worst of his crazy.
Also, he's got a great potential as a shades of gray foil to the batfamily in gotham, call into question their methods (is reform something they should strive for with their rogues, and so on.) How do the rogues feel about him going straight? do they want one of their number leaving crime behind, especially one with so many secrets?
Basically, he's a huge fly in the ointment, with his flylike agenda, and he'll be a good addition to nearly anything on a street level, Gotham levle- and with his intellect, could be a valuable call on for heroes who don't have a detective on call.... and of course, be available for rogues who have been wronged but can't go to the police. Eddie is the master of the double deal, after all.
J) Sample Post:
I'm linking to a long-standing world-hopping AU that a friend of mine and I have been running for a while now, as Eddie deals with a variety of issues.
Also, yes, I've discussed taking Riddler over and running a reform plot for him with the current player.

Please be as detailed as you wish. Applying for Becky mostly because she is one of the few canon females in Gotham that I can relate to, and could see myself being able to roleplay as her rather well, there is very little known about her and I would like to add to her history and her future. The stories I would like to create with her involve her moving beyond her college life and her change from a good girl to a darker character. I would love for her to meet everyone and interact with everyone really, but especially Jonathan Crane, Edward, Harley Quinn, Oswald, Batman, Mad Hatter, and Alice. As for what I would like changed, I want her to have accepted Scarecrow's request for her to become his mistress of fear, either then or later when perhaps she realizes that she really did want what he offered.
J) Sample Post:
Becky Albright was leaned forward a little in her chair as she enjoyed the pages of The return of the king and was focused completely on the book as she took the occassional drink from her cup of coffee that she had retrieved from the coffee store they had here in the library, which had amazed her when she found out. Most libraries where she came from didn't have such luxury and you would have to go somewhere like Books a million for that. Her Hazel eyes moved across the words of an old favorite that she enjoyed reading because it let her escape, and allowed her to pretend that she was one of those strong women in the book, and able to move better then she could in real life. The sound of a noise outside caused Becky to remove her eyes and look up. She sighed as her concentration was broken, and then realized the time. "Better go, class in an hour", she whispered to herself, and quickly collected what belonged to her and walked out of the library to the world outside.

I'm really interested in Conner's struggle to make a name of himself and escape his past. He has to strugle with the duality of being part Superman and part Lex Luthor and yet he wants to prove himself and his better nature. Of course, Connor will have to face Luthor and the Tomorrow party and help the Titans. I'm fascinated by Conner's relationship with the other Titans and I loved his characterization in Young Justice where he often found himself the voice of reason. I won't play him as too brooding but it's part of his charme.
J) Sample Post:
Conner always found a measure of security with his nose deep in an engine. Working with his hands and seeing the fruits of his labour when he heard a perfectly honed engine purr gave him a deep sense of satisfaction. He made something. He built it to last. It was something no one could take from him. Sometimes he wondered if his attitude was just a shade of Luthor's intellect but those thoughts were wuickly shushed as he realized he was capable of something that Luthor wasn't: Fighting for a better world. He felt that sense of fulfillment when he head with his super hearing an ultrasound that only he and Superman could hear. It meant trouble mostly but it also meant he was needed for that world he was trying to build...

For me, he would be a primary character, as I don't have designs on any other character here. However, in the context of the game as a whole, Joey is a secondary character. He doesn't have a city, and, without an established solo crime-fighting habit or Deathstroke, he generally doesn't supply much in the way of conflict (Please see the answer to question I for the instances where he does).
Instead, he's a teammate and a friend. Joey's a sounding board for people who need to work through things and an immediate volunteer when someone needs backup. I've always found that this provides many opportunities for a variety of scenes. He can take part in plots as an active member of the Titans, but he also functions to give other characters a means examining their own lives and problems. Let's be honest: everyone enjoys a good thread of delving into what makes their character tick, what makes them unique, and to really explore a superhero's personal side.
G) New character LJ journal (if already created): I'd like to use this one, even if it's in another game, because I'd prefer to not pay for two accounts. If that isn't acceptable, I can make another.
H) Base of operations:
This would depend on which Titans team the game considers him a part of. I don't have a hard preference between the three teams, as Joe would take whatever assignment was needed, but obviously having a good friend or two on the same squad would be wonderful.
I) Please explain further your reasons for applying for this character. What types of stories would you like to do with this character? What sorts of heroes/villains would you be interested in interacting with. Is there anything about the established comic-book canon of this character that you would like to see changed/different? Please be as detailed as you wish.
I suppose saying "I love this character" is obvious, but I do. I think superhero stories need characters like Joe, who are sympathetic, cheerful, and put a value on having a real life outside of tights, because they try to keep those around them equally grounded. They add a balance to the team dynamics.
As to what sort of stories I'd like to do and who I'd like to have Joe interact with? I'm open to anything. I know it sounds canned, but some of the best CR I've had in games has been between characters that I never would've expected to bounce off each other in quite that way. I couldn't have predicted that Bart Allen could find real common ground with Hayley from the movie Hard Candy.
Obviously, I'm looking forward to being able to interact with the many Titans and Teen Titans characters. There's a number of the Titans of his specific generation here, as well as his sister Rose. I started RP on GJ, years and years ago, when canon specific games were the norm. I stopped for years, and I've been consistently disappointed at the lack of them. I don't intend to have him only interact with his friends, but the presence of them and the stability that they and a familiar environment provide a character makes it an incredibly appealing RP.
Final note on this point, action scenes are awesome, so anyone who plays a villain shouldn't be sad that I'm spending so much time talking about the good guys. Just know that he's not going to find you in a dark alley. Brazen daylight robberies in art galleries? Look out.
On established canon, I would love to step away from the Evil Joey plots that DC can't quit. It's never made sense - not for Joey, not for the people around Joey who are implied to be completely oblivious to the change in their friend's personality until his initial face-heel turn is revealed. It's ridiculous! Things like engineering a massive attack on his friends, killing Wintergreen, and shooting Bart Allen are so wildly out of his character, which was established for years before any of this happened, are a disgrace.
But let's say I can work with the initial round of it, which blamed the Crazy on his being possessed by the souls of Azeroth (who were ALSO formerly peaceful people driven insane). This is explained by saying that Joey's possession of other people, despite his powers always being more of a physical possession than a mental one. So Joey "dies", except he takes over the body of his father while leaving his own body behind to rot [so we're now violating basic rules of how his powers work - his body doesn't get left behind!!] Somehow, the crazy remains in the years that this pacifist is living in his father's body, working as Deathstroke.
Then there's the whole thing with him attacking the Titans because now he hates teen heroes, and he gets trapped inside Cyborg's eye, which I suppose is as good a solution as any by that point.
Look, after that is the second good changing point (the first good changing point is before he went crazy in the first place). Namely, Raven uses the disc created by Cyborg with Joey's soul on it to resurrect Joe via DC mystical nonsense. That's fair enough - this is comics, after all. In canon, he is back to his old self for about 10 issues, until he possesses Match and is forced to keep doing so to keep Match contained.
At this point, we're told there is another, hitherto unseen effect of his powers: Joey supposedly contains mental pieces of all of the people he has possessed, and that is what drives him insane the second time. This is where I really must insist on putting my foot down. His power does not work that way. Full stop. He has, at best, been able to read the surface thoughts of someone that he has taken over. The idea that he has such a complete merging of their psyches in order to retain elements of their psychosis once he is no longer possessing them just doesn't work!
I've never played him from this point or further, because I feel like it's too far removed from what the character is meant to be. I don't have any concrete plans for how it might be possible to repair storyline, although I believe that M does and am willing to do whatever is needed. I recognize that the original Evil Joey story, the Wildebeast plotline, is a huge part of Titans lore and is likely unexcisable. That's fine. I'm hopeful that there is a way to massage the canon so that the Joseph Wilson in between his resurrection and possession of Match can be the Joseph Wilson of DC Nation.
If you have any further questions, please let me know. I tried not to soapbox too much.

H) Base of operations: Whatever works for Shade, but typically Metropolis.
I) Please explain further your reasons for applying for this character. What types of stories would you like to do with this character? I was considering going to be Vigilante, but then I read Shade's Vertigo series and I started thinking I wanted to be him instead. I feel like the guy's got a lot more potential as a character than Vigilante since not only has he got the ability to smithy his madness into a superpower as I see it, but also since he technically does fit in the DCU through crossovers and stuff like that, I think it'd be interesting to see how the wider DCU would handle him as he'd be like nothing they've seen before.
The types of stories I'd probably do would probably dial down the crazy I've seen in the Vertigo series, especially the imagery since you know but still have stories of Shade dealing with Madness-based threats but have Shade also tangle with other superheroes in the DCU ss they would also try to deal with the madness as well, giving Shade insight to what they're like much like how the Vertigo series had Shade exposed to the steady downward spiral of American culture.
While I haven't got anybody specific in mind when it comes to my stories in general, I'm thinking of doing stories where Shade's heroics get the attention of the Justice League and he would start running into Leaguers who he would work with a lot but is overall hesitant about joining the League, if those kinds of stories are allowed for me. He could also get the attention of more supernatural heroes such as Doctor Fate, who starts getting concerned about the M-Vest's power and tries to get him to keep it under control. As for the villains that could face it, since I'm figuring a permenant HQ of is would be in Metropolis, My idea of an archnemesis for him would be Mr.Mxyzptlk, who sees Shade as a rival to his power and tries to outdo him in messing with reality whenever they meet, inadvertantly inspiring more Madness as it's starting to leak into the DCU. Lex Luthor could also fit as he becomes interested in the power Shade could hold, and the M-Vest specfically.
The main difference I'll probably want with Shade is that while I think he's technically part of the DCU like I said, I'm drawing inspiration from the Vertigo version and I'll try and rework him to fit with the rest of the DCU proper. Also, like I said when I was discussing my story ideas, I feel like I have to tone down how screwy Shade's happenings actually are for the sake of anybody doing stories with me since I'm betting not a lot of people here have heard of Shade, the Changing Man.

I see him as a primary character, dealing with his father died and interacting with heroes after all of that.
G) New character LJ journal (if already created): N/A
H) Base of operations: Opal City
I) Please explain further your reasons for applying for this character. What types of stories would you like to do with this character? I'd love to focus on Jack having to deal with his father's death after the battle of Opal. I would also like to have him having to deal with being both a husband and a father, along with bringing a hero and trying to be balanced with everything. I would also like him to be mentoring Stargirl so she can eventually get his cosmic staff as this would be around the time that Starman would be looking into retirement.
Jack would also be interacting with heroes more from the JSA and such. He has no interest in being a part of the Justice League. He would rather be a part of the Justice Society. I would also focus on Jack's friendships over the years, with people such as Mikaal Thomas and Shade.
J) Sample Post:
Jack stared at a picture of his father and sighed. He missed his dad, Ted. He had been there for Jack, even after everything that has happened. His brother's death, him becoming a husband, etc. But then he was gone. He was dead. His father was a great man. His father was a superhero. His father was the best hero ever in Jack's eyes. Ted was Jack's hero.
Jack turned around to look at his cosmic rod, leaning on his bed. Jack had to make sure that he lived up to his fathers legacy. Jack WANTED to live up to his fathers legacy. Jack walked over and grabbed the cosmic staff, holding it up in the air. Jack needed to be very again. For his city. For his wife and for his daughter.
